LEONARDS PRISONER NUMBER PHOTO CONTEST

Gerry Foley, heading the James Larkin March this year in Liverpool, UK. James Larkin was an Irish Scouser who started the trade union off in Ireland and was part of the Irish struggle for freedom. The march goes from the Irish Centre just outside of the city, to the town hall.

LEONARD’S PRISONER NUMBER PHOTO CONTEST

Gerry Foley, 58, from Liverpool, describes himself as an Irish Scouse socialist. He says he was told by his parents that the Native Americans suffered the same as the Irish, that the Irish are the European “Indians”, starved, poisoned, thrown off their land, their language banned. He adds “I want to see Leonard free before I die, I always had 100% support from my wife, whom I lost in April, she won’t let me go to her until Leonard is free”.
He has proposed a campaign to get Leonard’s prisoner number out in public places/events covered by the media, like sports matches, public celebrations etc. He has started a contest for the best/most ingenious display of Leonard’s number. Every entry will receive a special key ring and the winner, to be decided January 2006, will get U$ 100, and the photo will be posted on our official website. Leonard’s prisoner number is 89637-132 (we have T-shirts and stickers with the number in our online store at http://www.cafepress.com/leonardpeltier ). Send your photos via e-mail to ghostshirt2003@yahoo.co.uk

A Message from Robert Redford- Help Protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Dear friends, this is an easy way to help protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, an effort spearheaded by our long-time ally Robert Redford. Please take a few minutes to participate.
Leonard Peltier Defense Committee

No one voted on Election Day to destroy the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

But President Bush is now claiming a mandate to do exactly that.

Congress will soon cast a decisive vote that could turn America's greatest sanctuary for Arctic wildlife into a vast, polluted oil field.

Even worse, they are evading public debate on this devastating measure by hiding it in the "budget reconciliation" bill.

Please go to [1]http://www.nrdcactionfund.org/arcticphotos/photos.asp
right now and send a message telling your U.S. senators and representative to reject this sneak attack on the Arctic Refuge.

Don't believe for a second that the president is targeting the Arctic Refuge for the sake of America's energy security or to lower gas prices at the pump.

President Bush knows full well that oil drilled in the Arctic Refuge would take ten years to get to market and would never equal more than a paltry one or two percent of our nation's daily consumption. Simply put, sacrificing the crown jewel of our wildlife heritage would do nothing to reduce gas prices or break our addiction to Persian Gulf oil.

But if the raid on the Arctic Refuge isn't really about gas prices or energy security, then what is it about?

It's the symbolism.

The Arctic Refuge represents everything spectacular and everything endangered about America's natural heritage. It embodies a million years of ecological serenity . . . a vast stretch of pristine wilderness . . . an irreplaceable birthing ground for polar bears, caribou and white wolves.

It is the greatest living reminder that conserving nature in its wild state is a core American value. It stands for every remnant of wilderness that we, as a people, have wisely chosen to protect from the relentless march of bulldozers, chain saws and oil rigs.

And that's why the Bush administration is dead set on destroying it.

By unlocking the Arctic Refuge, they hope to open the door for oil, gas and coal giants to invade our last and best wild places: our western canyonlands, our ancient forests, our coastal waters, even our national monuments.

This is the real agenda behind the raid on the Arctic Refuge and the entire Bush-Cheney energy plan: to transfer our public estate into corporate hands so it can be liquidated for a quick buck.

Tom DeLay (R-TX) admitted as much when he said this battle over the Arctic Refuge is really a fight over whether energy exploration will be allowed in similarly sensitive areas in the future.

"It's about precedent," Rep. DeLay said.

I take him at his word. If we let the president and Congress plunder the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for the sake of oil company profits, then no piece of our natural heritage will be safe from wholesale destruction.

Please go to [2]http://www.nrdcactionfund.org/arcticphotos/photos.asp
and tell your senators and representative to vote against any budget bill that would destroy the Arctic Refuge.

And thank you for speaking out at this critical time.

Sincerely,

Robert Redford

Fast for Peltier by, Keith Rabin

Fast For Peltier
(c) Oct 2005 by: Keith Rabin

Our lives are tied together by humanity
When cut we bleed the same you and I
Looking at each of us you may not discern
That between us we share most the same dna

As for justice there are separate laws
Innocent in your world means freedom
In my world it means I live behind the iron doors
In your world the truth will set you free

Truth is not the key to my iron locks
Perhaps a sacrifice to spirit will break this lock
Men hold me falsely with their lies
While my heart is part of the eagle's cry

The time for freedom is now, free me
Gather and unite, as together we might change the world
It is with these words I reach out to you
Hear them and consider a life behind iron doors

Twelve days in the name of Freedom, stand up and fast
In the name of Peltier, in solidarity we fast
Fast for Peltier, follow your spirit guides ....
Twelve days what will you do for Peltier.....

Also ask that any Parade for Columbus end now and forever Protest in peace, a-ho
In peace
Keith

Activists Around Country Fast As Leonard Peltier Endures His 30th Year in Prison!

Activists Around Country Fast As Leonard Peltier Endures His 30th Year in Prison!

For immediate release: October 6, 2005

For more information: Ted Glick, 973-338-5398, Toni Zeidan, LPDC-915-533-6655

As their 12 day fast reaches its halfway point, a group of 10 activists called upon the Federal Bureau of Prisons to expedite the release of Native American political prisoner, writer and artist Leonard Peltier, currently serving time inLewisburg Federal Prison.

In 1976 Peltier was unjustly convicted before an all-white jury in North Dakota of the killing of two FBI agents on thePine Ridge Indian Reservation on June 26, 1975. On October15, 1985 the government admitted in open court that they did not have proof of who killed their agents. The 10th CircuitCourt of Appeals has since said that "the prosecution of Mr.Peltier is to be condemned; they [the prosecution]withheld evidence and coerced testimony. These facts are undisputed."

The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee and the People's Fast for Justice have organized this year's fast. Each year since 1992 this action has taken place in October. Some of those participating in this year's fast have been part of it each year since 1992.

Among the fasters are Wilson Riles, former citycouncilperson and mayoral candidate in Oakland, Ca.,Esperanza Martell, long-time Puerto Rican/Taina human rights activist, Patricia St. Onge, a member of the Haudenosaunee tribe, and Toni Zeidan, Liaison from the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee. Others participating in the fast include Rainbow Casey, Ted Glick, Ben Manski, Peg Rapp, Red TreeWoman, and Diane Thomas. Participants are from the states of California, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Wisconsin.

During the fast no solid food is being eaten. Some are fasting on water only, others on liquids. The fast will end on October 12th, which for a growing number of people in theUnited States is Indigenous Peoples Day.

UPDATE ON RUSSELL LOUDHAWK!

Russell Loudhawk is still alive, but not only fighting the trauma from the accident but also pneumonia, which the doctors need to get a handle on before operating. They think they will operate next Tuesday but the success rate for fixing the set of vertebra that house the nerves that go to the heart is minimal. The family really needs support. We sent them what we could and are trying to get some more money but we are asking all if there is anything you can give, no matter how little, it will be greatly appreciated. If you don't want to spend money on western union send the money to Toni at the LPDC and she can advance it to the family as soon as you give her the word at info@leonardpeltier.org
Thank you all!
